Talking about food in Hindi

In this short daily lesson , we will learn some Hindi words for food and their usage in sentences.

The word “food” translates to “खाना (khaana)” which is a noun. The word “खाना (khaanaa)” is also a verb which means “to eat”.

  • मैं खाना खा रहा /रही हूँ | (main khanaa khaa rahaa/rahee hoon)
  • I am eating Food.
  • मैं चावल खा रहा /रही हूँ | (main chaawal khaa rahaa/rahee hoon)
  • I am eating rice.
  • मैं रोटी खा रहा /रही हूँ | (main roti khaa rahaa/rahee hoon)
  • I am eating chapati
  • मैं रोटी के साथ दाल खा रहा/रही हूँ | (main roti ke saath saath daal khaa raha/rahee hoon)
  • I am eating chapati with lentils. (दाल = cooked lentils)
  • मैं चावल के साथ दाल खा रहा/रही हूँ | (main chaaval ke saath daal khaa rahaa/rahee hoon)
  • I am eating rice with lentils.
  • मैं आलू की सब्जी खा रहा/रही हूँ | (main aaloo kee sabzee khaa rahaa/rahee hoon)
  • I am eating Potato curry. (सब्जी = vegetable, and also cooked vegetables with curry)
  • मैं पालक की सब्जी खा रहा /रही हूँ | (main paalak ki sabjee khaa rahaa/rahee hoon)
  • I am eating Spinach curry.

Bonus sentence:

  • मुझे भारतीय खाना पसंद है | (mujhe bhaarteey khaanaa pasand hai)
  • I like Indian food/cuisine.
