“Comparison” in Hindi

We will learn how to compare things in Hindi using Hindi adjectives.

In the previous lessons, we saw different types of Hindi adjectives.

For example:

  • Adjectives on colors : मेरा पेन काला है | (meraa pen kaalaa hai) = My pen is black
  • Adjectives on quantities : मेरा पेन बड़ा है | (meraa pen badaa hai) = My pen is big
  • Adjectives on appearance : मेरा पेन सुन्दर है | (meraa pen sundar hai) = My pen is beautiful
  • Adjectives on numerals : यह मेरा पहला पेन है | (yah meraa pahalaa pen hai) = This is my first pen

Now, we will see how to use these adjectives to compare nouns in Hindi

In Hindi, we compare two nouns by adding  suffix  -से (se) to the noun we want to be compared with.

For example

पीटर मोनिका से बड़ा है | (peter monikaa se badaa hai) = Peter is bigger than Monika.

मोनिका पीटर से बड़ी है | (monikaa peter se badee hai) = Monika is bigger than Peter.

मेरा भाई पीटर से लम्बा है | (meraa bhai peter se lambaa hai) = My brother is taller than Peter.

मेरी बहन पीटर से लम्बी है | (meree bahan peter se lambee hai) = My sister is taller than Peter

मैं तुम से लम्बा/लम्बी  हूँ | (main tum se lambaa/lambee hoon) = I am taller than you.

मैं आप से  गोरा हूँ | ( main aap se goraa hoon) = I am fairer than you.

पीटर हम से चालाक  है | (peter ham se chaalak hai) = Peter is cleverer than us.

More examples:

Hindi English
मुंबई दिल्ली से दूर है |

mumbai dilli se duur hai

Mumbai is farther than Delhi,
आय फ़ोन  गूगल नेक्सस से महंगा है |

iPhone google nexus se mahangaa hai

iPhone is costlier than Google Nexus.
आम  केले से  सस्ता है |

aap kele se sastaa hai

Mango is cheaper than Banana
कॉफ़ी चाय से गरम है |

koffee chaay se garam hai

Coffee is hotter than Tea
किताब पेपर से हल्का है |

kitaab paper se halkaa hai

Book is lighter than paper
मोनिका  सोनिया से सुन्दर है |

Monika isoniyaa se sundar hai.

Monika is more beautiful than Soniya.
